Throughout 2020, the NUS FinTech Lab had been forging both public and private sector partnerships to drive the development of Singapore’s FinTech sector and develop the local talent pool to meet the increasing demand for FinTech talents as the country prepares for the advent of digital banks, the growing local presence of FinTech giants like Tencent and startups like Revolut, and the digitalisation initiatives of incumbent financial services companies like DBS and UBS. Public sector partnerships include those with local government agencies like the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and foreign governments like The Philippines and Malaysia.
Private sector partnerships include bringing on industry partners like DBS, UBS, Bank of Singapore, Singtel, Grab, Razer FinTech and among other companies to provide traineeship opportunities for FinTechSG students.
Tripartite partnerships between the NUS FinTech Lab, public and private sector include the Singapore FinTech Festival where we worked with the National Trade Unions Congress (NTUC), Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and industry partners like UOB, Google, ANZ, MasterCard and Microsoft to create content on the opportunities and labour trends in the FinTech sector.
Through our participation in the Singapore Fintech Festival Talent Pavilion, our corporate partners include Grab, Seedly, the Fifth Person and Endowus. Collaborating from in the public sector, Mr. Patrick Tay (Assistant Secretary General of NTUC) connected us to the chairman of the hawkers association, Mr. Anthony Goh, who was happy to help us in our community outreach by allowing our volunteers to approach the general public and have informal coffee chats at hawker centres about FinTech. By walking the ground in the heartlands of Boon Lay, Tiong Bahru, Ghim Moh, Clementi, Ang Mo Kio and Bedok, we were able to obtain valuable feedback on the public’s perceptions towards FinTech which could help inform our approach towards tailoring our programmes to suit the public’s needs. Additionally, this community outreach allowed us to drive interest in the Singapore FinTech Festival’s Talent Pavilion, a one-stop shop for professionals, job-seekers, employers and students looking to be part of Singapore’s FinTech ecosystem.
