XFund

by Ong Si Hui (Ariel), Intern of NUS FinTech Lab, and her teammates Sumit Sanjay Shinde and Brian Chua

XFund is a decentralized education funding platform my teammates built during the EasyA Hackathon. It connects students with corporate sponsors through blockchain, breaking down barriers posed by traditional loans and scholarships.

How it works:

  • Companies sponsor tuition upfront, with students committing to work for them post-graduation—like a bonded scholarship.
  • Transparent, on-chain contracts on the XRP Ledger via NFTs & escrow ensure trust and security.
  • Students get more flexible funding options beyond government loans or banks, including private school & bootcamp learners.

Looking ahead, XFund plans to expand into:

  • True loan models with repayment post-graduation
  • Public scholarship listings for companies to reach students directly
  • AI-powered risk assessment tools for smarter sponsorship decisions

MicroLoanX

by Donavon Wong, Brandon Cheong, Vince Chua, Felicia Z., and Naavya Sethi, students from NUS SoC

MicroLoanX is a decentralized microloan platform built on the XRP Ledger. It’s designed to provide pseudonymous access to credit for the unbanked—no traditional credit scores or KYC needed.

Instead of identity, trust is built via:

  • Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs)
  • On-chain reputation tied to loan performance
  • Escrowed RLUSD loans to ensure secure, trustless repayments

Tech Stack & Key Features:

  • XRPL’s native Escrow Objects for trustless fund locking
  • RLUSD integration for stable-value lending
  • xrpl.js (v4.2.5) to interact with the ledger
  • Next.js + Tailwind CSS for a clean frontend
  • Mock DID system and on-chain credit scoring prototype

We even got real-time RLUSD loans and repayments flowing on the XRPL testnet!
