The NUS FinTech Lab at the National University of Singapore’s School of Computing received a US$1 million grant from Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) to support its operations and strengthen its collaboration with Ripple over the next two years. Since its establishment in 2019, the Lab has become a key hub for fintech research, education, and industry engagement, promoting innovation through initiatives such as FinTech Brew, podcasts, workshops, and collaborative research with industry and policymakers.
The grant reinforces the Lab’s mission of bridging academic research with real-world industry applications. Professor Hahn Jungpil, Director of the NUS FinTech Lab, emphasized that Ripple’s continued support enables the Lab to combine rigorous academic research with practical solutions to address critical challenges in financial technology. The funding also supports student development through hackathons, conferences, workshops, and industry partnerships, helping prepare the next generation of fintech professionals and researchers.
Looking ahead, the NUS FinTech Lab plans to expand its research and thought leadership in key areas including the digital economy, digital assets, trusted AI, and AI governance. By strengthening partnerships with industry, regulators, and academic institutions, the Lab aims to advance fintech innovation, influence policy discussions, and contribute to Singapore’s position as a global fintech hub
